Diapers don't absorb

Ensure no fabric softener, ensure snug fit with cover hugging baby, add liners for heavy wetters. Cloth diapers do allow baby to feel wet. Baby tells you quickly she needs changing. Frequent changes are good for the baby.

Diapers look pilled

Will not take away from wear and absorbency, can be shaved with clothes shaver. Ensure Velcro tabs on diapers and covers closed in washer and drier. If diapers worn without covers on rough surfaces, pilling on outside the diaper is normal. Do not wash with other laundry, keep baby things together, include covers, washcloths, liners.

Diapers falling apart within months

Were soaked in bleach, stop the bleach, replace worn out diapers and don't use bleach, ever. Watch detergents with bleach added.

Diapers are stained

Stained diapers are not necessarily unclean diapers. Bowel movements will stain diapers and liners. Spray with diluted Hydrox II solution to cut down or eliminate stains. Also bleach by hanging outside in the sun, sunshine will bleach  naturally. Stains do not take away from wear and health of diaper

Covers leak

Check type of cover using, some hold liquids in better and longer than others. Breathable cotton covers need more frequent changes than heavy duty super whisper wraps. Check fit of covers, if covers too big, too small or too lose. If covers went into the drier, they will break down. Covers do need to be replaced, will not pass to second child. Average life of a cover  is approx months, dependent on laundry and care.

Diapers are too big

Our hipbaby adjust to fit diapers fit 8 to 35 pound (3.6-16 kilo) babies. However an 8 pound baby will seem to be all diaper. This is not harmful or uncomfortable for baby. Use the snap down feature and overlapping Velcro to make the diaper as small as possible. Use the cover to create a nice snug fit. Your baby will grow by leaps and bounds and before you know it you will be snapping higher.

Diapers that seem bulky between the legs are also not harmful to babies. In fact, some parents come to us for cloth diapers upon a doctor's recommendation due to underdeveloped hip joints. Keeping the hips spread by bulking up the diapers between the legs in an important part of encouraging proper hip development.  

Diaper rash

Check that diapers are being washed and rinsed properly, check that no fabric softeners added. Babies rashes are caused by many things including the food they eat, teething, chemicals touching their skin. The best remedy is to use a fresh clean diaper, frequent changes, air dry bum whenever possible. Keep on hand a variety of different ointments, as they all work well on specific rashes.
